Inhalation Sedation for Nervous Patients

Do you know that you need dental treatment but just keep putting it off?

Do you feel upset or angry with yourself because you somehow think your fears are "silly?"

Would you like to have the dental care you need without having to worry about it?

At Mi Dental Stony Stratford we also offer inhalation sedation (sometimes known as Relative Analgesia).

This sits alongside our long-established intravenous sedation service which has been helping our patients (and those referred to us by other dentists) for over 25 years now.

So what is inhalation and why is it different to our conventional conscious sedation?

  • It is a lighter form of sedation, with an extremely quick recovery time (few minutes). There are no lasting effects so it is ideal for people who need to be on the go straight after their treatment, e.g. driving, going back to work etc.

  • It is not needle-based, it is breathing in a mixture of nitrous oxide and oxygen, so perfect for people who don't like the idea of a cannula in their arm.

  • Unlike intravenous sedation, relative analgesia is actually a mild painkiller, which is always a good thing before you even start your dental treatment!

  • It is particularly helpful in overcoming the gag reflex, which is something that a lot of our patients are fearful of during their treatment.

  • It is extremely safe and so ideal for some of our patients who don't fit the safety criteria for our intravenous sedation service.

  • It can also be used a 'combo' sedative before your intravenous sedation. This is ideal for really worried patients, or ones who struggle with their veins. The inhalation sedation gets you nice and relaxed, brings your veins up so that we can administer the intravenous sedation, and our team can then decide what mix of intravenous and inhalation sedation we can use to carry you through your treatment!

Dental sedation is the perfect way of achieving your dental treatment without fear or worry.

Just take some deep breaths and we'll do the rest!

Your chosen treatment can then be completed easily and safely.

You'll come around within a matter of a few minutes, your treatment is complete and you can decide what you want to do, go back to work, or go home and relax!

Mitesh is trained by The Society for the Advancement of Anaesthesia in Dentistry (SAAD), the UK’s leading organisation for sedation in dentistry.
